    Senior Research Assistant

    Emergency Medicine (Brown EM) is the academic emergency medicine physician practice plan of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Brown EM provides emergency department staffing for Rhode Island Hospital, the only Level I trauma center in this region; Hasbro Children’s Hospital, Rhode Island’s only children’s specialty hospital; The Miriam Hospital, a leading community teaching hospital and Newport Hospital, a community Magnet Hospital. Brown EM member physicians and providers treat over 250,000 patients per year at our 4 clinical sites, drawing patients from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.     Brown EM is looking for a full-time, 40-hour per week, Senior Research Assistant for the Brown-Lifespan Center for Digital Health (CDH) Program at Alpert Medical School who will be responsible for assisting Founding Director Dr. Megan Ranney on a variety of multidisciplinary research projects pertaining to digital health, violence prevention, and public health. The Senior Research Assistant will assist Dr. Ranney and CDH staff members in a wide range of project-related tasks such as writing, revising, and submitting manuscripts and research proposals; development of promotional and presentation materials; and assisting with management of selected undergraduate research interns/volunteers. The Senior Research Assistant will be responsible for composing periodic literature reviews, and assisting with the presentation of abstracts, manuscripts, presentations, and grant applications. The Senior Research Assistant, along with the Director and other CDH staff, may represent the Brown-Lifespan Center for Digital Health in collaborative partnerships, interact with remote consultants or team members, coordinate project communications, and develop scientific reports and presentations. Other responsibilities include occasional assistance with CDH related short-term tasks or special projects, as well as additional related tasks, as necessary. The position will require a high degree of independence and flexibility. It will require the ability to independently search, read, and synthesize published and unpublished literature and data; some degree of familiarity with design and visual communications; and at least 2-3 years of work experience. These tasks may be performed independently and/or without direct supervision in an on- or off-site location.

    Other responsibilities may include:
    -Assisting with analysis and authorship of manuscripts, grants, and IRB documents
    -Assisting with collation, analysis, and development of data visualizations and presentations
    -Completion of literature reviews and summaries, including synthesizing findings and writing reports
    -Development and support of relevant external partnerships
    -Assisting with management of selected undergraduate interns and/or volunteers
    -Assisting with the development or execution of selected special projects

    The qualifications for the position are:
    -Highly organized, self-motivated, outstanding attention to detail, and ability to multi-task
    -Excellent verbal communication, written communication, and analytical skills
    -Excellent time management skills and ability to manage both short- and long-term responsibilities
    -Flexibility to adapt to changing projects and work condition
    -Excellent project management and/or research management skills, with a keen attention to detail
    -Excellent computer skills (e.g., Microsoft suite) and some proficiency with data
    -Prior healthcare or research experience
    -Bachelor’s degree

    The preferences for this position are:
    -Master’s degree in relevant discipline (MPH, MA, MSc)
    -Prior experience in public health, emergency medicine, or digital health/mHealth
    -Prior experience with clinical research
    -Familiarity with data collection software (e.g., REDCap)
    -Familiarity with electronic medical records (e.g. EPIC)
    -Familiarity with citation software (e.g., EndNote), statistical software (e.g., Stata)
    -Familiarity with data visualization software (e.g., managing institutional review boards (IRB) applications, budgets, and staff)
