The Sensing Systems for Health Lab (S2He) at the University of Virginia, under the direction of Laura Barnes, PhD seeks applicants for a full-time Research Coordinator to start June 1, 2021 (though specific start date is negotiable). The funding this position comes from multiple sources, but is broadly focused on digital health interventions targeted at health and wellness. The S2He lab i fuses computational methods with technology such as smartphones and wearables to design intelligent systems for understanding the dynamics and personalization of health and well-being.
To that end, we conduct studies in a variety of populations and chronic diseases (cancer patients, mental health disorders, students, etc.) using both lab-based and remote (web and mobile) data collections. Duties will include coordinating participant recruitment, preparation of study materials, curating and organizing data, training other research assistants, participant assessments, and data management. The Research Coordinator will also have opportunities to co-author scientific papers and conduct independent research.
Qualified candidates must have an Associate’s degree, equivalent experience or course work will be considered in lieu of a degree. Preference will be given to candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in psychology, biomedical sciences, or related STEM discipline. Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong background in empirical research, ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously, excellent communication skills, and a conscientious work style. Candidates with experience with computer programming and/or quantitative data analyses are particularly encouraged to apply (though prior experience in these areas is not essential).
This position is restricted and is contingent upon the continuation of funding. It is expected that this position will last a minimum of one year.
