    The Department of Psychiatry has an opening for a full-time Clinical Research Specialist in its Biobehavioral Research Laboratory, which conducts studies examining the effects of maternal and child environmental exposures (e.g., stress/trauma, chemicals) on young children’s developmental outcomes (e.g., stress physiology, mental health, neurodevelopment, health outcomes). Current projects involve follow-up of a cohort of mothers recruited in pregnancy and their children for assessments when the children are between 5 and 12 years of age. Assessments involve collection of a range of data, including maternal interviews, child interactional tasks, neurodevelopmental measures, biosamples, physiology, and anthropometry. Studies are multi-site and involve interactions/collaborations with NIH and other sites.

    The Clinical Research Specialist will be responsible for:

    • Assisting Principal Investigator (PI) in planning and implementing research studies.
    • Working with and coordinating a team of research staff associated with the research projects.
    • Contributing to running the day-to-day operations for research protocols under the direction of the PI.
    • Monitoring and managing equipment, supplies, purchasing.
    • Institutional Review Board (IRB) management and preparing progress and other reports for NIH.
    • Overseeing data management.
    • Participating in processing of data.
    • Managing communications with staff at collaborating research sites and related organizations within and outside the hospital.
    • Managing biosample inventory, coordinating with local and collaborating biorepositories.
    • Under the direction of the PI, organizing hiring and training of new research staff.
    • Administering study protocols remotely, in the laboratory, and in the home, and assisting with recruitment/consenting/participant tracking/scheduling as needed.
    • Writing/updating study protocol/materials as needed.
    • Attending and/or leading study-related meetings; training collaborators off-site as needed.
    • Assisting in data and/or document preparation for posters, journal publications, and grant activities, including literature searches and article retrieval.

    To qualify, you must have:
    • Work requires the knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum three years of relevant work experience or a Master’s degree and one year of relevant work experience.
    • The ability to assist with grant preparation, publications, presentations, and applications to an IRB.
    • High level of motivation; ability to work independently and as part of a team; excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail; ability to multi-task; analytical skills to gather and interpret data in which the information or problems are moderately complex to complex.
    • Well-developed communication skills in order to provide critical information to participants, work collaboratively on a team, effectively deal with conflicting views or issues, and mediate fair solutions.
    • Sensitivity in working with multicultural populations, traumatized women, and young children.
    • Flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends. Hours will be adjusted to maximize recruitment and interviewing schedules.
    • Knowledge of Word, Excel, Powerpoint, SPSS, and REDCap is a plus.
    • Fluency in both English and Spanish is a plus.
    • A valid driver’s license is a plus. (A car is not required.)
